XR Technology Evolution
Virtual and Augmented Reality tools are quickly evolving from playing games to making real business sense. There’s never been a better time to acquire VR and AR technology, with offerings from $300 to $3500, there are devices for nearly any budget and use case.
For over 10 years, Oberon clients have been integrating VR experiences into their training, operations, and marketing activities. With the latest headsets providing greater processing power, resolution, and easier controls and navigation, as well as integrated pass-through views adoption of VR for commercial use cases is accelerating.
NRC Using Extended Reality for Technical Training
Oberon Technologies®, Inc. has been awarded a significant contract with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) to develop Extended Reality for Technical Training. The scenarios will include fully immersive virtual reality (VR) environments which provide a photo-realistic view of at least two floors of a nuclear facility, accessible using VR hardware, as well as a 3D interactive (3DI) equivalent environment that can be accessed using a computer, mouse and keyboard.
These innovative solutions will enable the NRC’s Technical Training Center (TTC) to offer options for more efficient and effective training, in addition to the existing technical and simulator training. Click here for more details.
Innovative Hardware: Apple Vision Pro & More
Oberon is proud to be among the first to provide our energy clients with commercial experiences optimized for the Apple Vision Pro headset. Having the ability to take advantage of the latest innovations give our users the opportunity to get more value from their VR investments. However, it’s important to note that we don’t limit the modules to use with one hardware provider. Most environments are offered for a variety of hardware including HTC Vive Pro2, Meta3 and Meta Pro, Valve Index, PICO as well as 3D interactive for computer-based training.
Commercial VR Use Cases
The hazardous environments common among Energy Providers are ideal for leveraging VR Training for safety and efficiency. Oberon clients are taking advantage of VR and 3DI experiences to enable the following:
Nuclear
Foreign Materials Exclusion (FME) practice for safety and to prevent down time
Gas Utillities
Emergency Response Training, Leak Investigation, and Damage Prevention
Electrical Utilities
Substation walkthroughs, and underground safety operations
Oil & Gas
Fluid End training for disassembly, inspection and assembly. Frac Site training reviewing equipment and components on a virtual frac site.
